Schools Closed Due to Anticipated Traffic Congestion

Monongalia County Schools will be closed on Friday, August 26, 2023, due to anticipated traffic congestion. The decision was made in consultation with the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia Division of Highways.

Anticipated Traffic Congestion

The anticipated traffic congestion is due to the expected high volume of traffic on Friday. The West Virginia University football team is hosting the University of Pittsburgh at Milan Puskar Stadium on Thursday, August 25, 2023. The game is expected to draw a large crowd to the area.

In addition, the West Virginia Black Bears baseball team is hosting the Mahoning Valley Scrappers at Monongalia County Ballpark on Friday, August 26, 2023. This game is also expected to draw a large crowd to the area.

The Monongalia County Sheriff's Office and the West Virginia Division of Highways anticipate that the combination of these two events will create significant traffic congestion in the area on Friday.

School Closure

Due to the anticipated traffic congestion, Monongalia County Schools will be closed on Friday, August 26, 2023. All after-school activities and events are also canceled.

School will resume on Monday, August 29, 2023.
